In February 2010 Kibuye Hospital, a ministry of the Free Methodist Church in Burundi since the 1940s was turned over to Hope Africa University for development in treating the surrounding population and use as a clinical training facility for medical and nursing students from the university. At that time it was renamed Kibuye Hope Hospital. Since becoming part of the university, aggressive plans are in process for expansion including the arrival of a team of six career physicians in early 2013 (view their blog). The hospital is currently staffed by African MDs assisted and mentored by around 20 visiting expatriate physicians per year.
